Friday Love

in honor of labor day, aka the unofficial end of summer, friday love this week is dedicated to all things fall.  let's all get excited for my favorite season.
changing of the leaves.  i'm from massachusetts.  the leaves change color here.  it's awesome.  it makes driving in the fall anywhere super.
image from
socks under boots.  my absolute favorite trend from last year.  knee high boots with socks.  makes legs warmer and spruces up any outfit.  some people, particularly boys, don't like this trend.  i say poo on you.  it helps me not get runs in my tights and looks cool.  boom.
image from
warm scarves.  scarves that are just for decoration are good and all, but give me a blustery day and a cozy warm scarf and that makes me a happy girl.  have i mentioned i hate being hot, so scarf weather is my absolute favorite.
image from
apple pie.  one of my 30 before 30 is to make a pie from scratch, including the crust.  i should have specified that it will be apple.  apple pie is hands down the best pie, especially during apple picking season, no discussion needed.  case closed.

I Suck at Blogging this Week

dear nine followers of the world, sorry the blog has been lacking it's usual daily posts this week.  i've felt like poo all week.  i finally went to the doctors today and guess what, there's nothing wrong with me.  i just have a cold/cough that just won't die.  at least now my mom will stop calling me every night to tell me to go to the doctors.

anyways, continuing with my master plan of fall wish lists, see my beloved j.crew below:
sidenote: this shirt was backordered until 12/3/12.  now it's only backordered to 11/27/12.  now if only it was available today at a lesser price.
sidenote: i've been stalking this shirt for awhile in store.  it's awesome and i want it, but i just can't pull the trigger.
sidenote: this shirt is $ no.  the color is called portobello mushroom.  i hate mushrooms, but i love this shirt.
sidenote: the color of this dress is called brilliant red.  um...i beg to differ.  this dress is orange.
all images from
sidenote: these shoes are $238 aka be on the look out for a store like old navy to recreate these almost exactly for $20.  pointed flat shoes are all the rage this fall.  they'll be everywhere at all price points.

Gap Fall Wish List

this coming weekend is september.  holy cannoli, it's fall.  in honor of apple cider donuts, leaves changing color, and scarves (aka my favorite parts of fall) i've decided to post my fall wish lists from all my favorite stores starting with the gap:

Fry It Up

tomorrow i'm heading out of state (minus AJD) again.  this time to celebrate a bachelorette in newport, ri.  i'm obviously excited for the beach and the bars, but i'm not going to lie, i've been thinking about one special place:
image from
ahhhh flo's clam shack.  it's been so long since we've seen each other.  don't worry, we'll be reunited this weekend in all of your delicious fried goodness.

p.s. i haven't written a friday love post yet to post tomorrow and i'm tired and want to go to bed.  so, with that said, friday love is dedicated to flo's (and my favorite bachelorette "swoopes").  see you on monday!

Gimme Some Mo

i really don't have anything to write about today.  i've been slacking on the gym and chores since we got back from maine, so i'm finally feeling productive today, which means that i haven't really had any good thoughts about a blog post today.  so instead you get to see some more sweet shots of me (the majority i am very very sweaty) from my acadia hiking trip.
ooh look at how long my hair is.  looooove it.  sadly though i must admit that i've been finding more gray hairs than normal.  i'm an olllllllllld lady now.  i'm trying to last as long as i can before i'm forced to dye my hair.  i used to dye my hair dark brown/red right after college.  i liked it for awhile, but i've grown to re-love the natural color my hair has morphed into.  it's been years since i last dyed it and frankly my wallet wants it to stay that way as long as possible.
i love caution signs right as you start a hike.  always get you pumped/makes you question your sanity as to why hiking is enjoyable at all.  i have to say the precipice trail with all its rock climbing and iron ladders really made for a fun/mildly sketchy climb.
oh you know, just crawling under some precariously placed gigantic boulders.  there were constantly signs pleading with hikers not to throw rocks to avoid the ever popular rock slide.  always makes you feel safe when you see those signs and then you have to crawl under a giant boulder to continue on the trail.
maxing and relaxing on some iron ladders for a photo op.
just getting all sassy while sweating to death/sipping from my camel pack after getting engaged.  nothing matches a fancy diamond ring better than a water back pack, sweaty slicked back hair, and an old t-shirt and mesh shorts.  i personally love it and wouldn't change it for the world.

Minty Fresh

i didn't really go all out shopping after my birthday like i usually do, but i have grabbed a few things here and there.  recently i've been loving old navy.  i picked up this silk mint tank recently and i'm loving it.  silk blouses are all over the place.  i don't know how long the trend will last, so to me it's the the perfect thing to buy at old navy.  no need to drop loads of dough on a piece that you're not sure will stand the test of time.  it's light and loose and can be warn untucked with pants or tucked in with a pencil skirt.  perfect for boston at the end of august.  bonus too that it was less than $20.  old navy had multiple colors and patterns.  definitely go check it out if you're in the market.
silk shirt: old navy; cardigan: banana republic; necklace: j.crew; sloan ankle pant: banana republic

p.s. these definitely are not attractive pictures that i just snapped of myself but i was too lazy to retake them, plus the camera is running out of batteries.  deal with it.

Sparkly Weekend Recap

as i mentioned last week, AJD and i headed up to acadia national park in maine to do some hiking and to celebrate our four year anniversary.  here is the recap in photos:
we started the trip by hiking to the top of acadia mountain for some awesome views of the ocean.
saturday morning we ate breakfast at our hotel right next to the ocean.  this was our morning foggy view of bar harbor.
the first hike of the day on saturday was the precipice trail which was oodles of fun.  it was more like ladder and light rock climbing than hiking.  it was a tough hike, but well worth the challenge.
after lunch on saturday, we hiked to the top of the triad.  we were the only ones on the whole mountain and took a breather at the summit for a while.
while we were at the summit AJD proposed!  huzzah!
we celebrated at cafe this way which was delicious.  if you're ever in bar harbor, i highly recommend checking this place out.  the pecan crusted halibut is super.

Friday Love

AJD and i are off again!  acadia national park in bar harbor, maine or bust!  remember if you want to follow me on instagram, njeane13.  i tend to blow up instagram when out of state.

this week's friday love is dedicated to a few of my birthday presents that i love.
giant umbrella.  perfect for the monsoons we've been having in boston lately.  i tested this sucker out earlier in the week and she works like a dream.
nike free running shoes.  i've been having a hate/hate relationship with my reebok running shoes, so AJD came through in the clutch with these beauties which are straight fire.  the neon yellow is so bright, i spend more time looking at my shoes when running than complaining in my head that i want to sit down and eat something.  win/win in my book.
instyle magazine subscription.  fave fashion magazine.  two whole years of style coming to this girl.
anthropologie earrings.  i knew this blog would come in handy.  AJD is such a smart cookie that he took the post i did on my love of anthropologie earrings and took it upon himself to get me two of my favorite pairs.  love.

Cats Are Not My Thing

last up in the week o'me is my favorite animal...the dog!  i am probably the largest proponent against cats that you will meet.  i don't care if you have the nicest cat ever or the cutest cat ever, it will still eat your eyes out if given the opportunity.  to me, cats are way too smart and conniving and evil.  dogs on the other hand are delightful.  they're perfect to me (minus rat-sized dogs).  to me, when it comes to dogs, the bigger the better.  dogs always make my day brighter.  so, to make your day brighter, here are some pictures of my favorite pooches.  meet gus, jenny, and (the late) jake.

The Best Fruit Around

next up in the all about me week is my favorite book.  a lot of people who know me would probably say the harry potter series.  that is incorrect my friends.  i had a hardcore love for another boy before harry and his name is james.
i have no idea how many times i've read this book.  i do know it's been too long though.  roald dahl is the shizz in general, but james and the giant peach is definitely his best.  the imaginitivity of the story, the awesomeness of the characters, and the overall message of the book just enraptured me when i was younger.  i imagine it still would today.  i think i may need a reread in the near future.

p.s. unlike harry potter, the movie version of james and the giant peach did not do it justice.  i don't even want them to try and remake it into a different movie.  the book is enough on its own.

Dissed in the Malibu

so i've decided that since yesterday was my birthday and i don't want it to end, the blog will be dedicated to me for a whole week.  this sounds redonk since the blog is all about me for the most part, but the rest of the week will be a list of my favorite things.

first up, my favorite movie:
80's.  john cusack.  in your eyes as the theme song.  amazing supporting cast.  unending one liners.  i can watch this movie over and over again.  i also know every single line from the movie, so i try not to watch it with people who have never seen it because it usually ruins it for them, but i can't help myself. this movie is beyond quotable and i love it and i love lloyd dobbler.

Birthday Sass

today is my 29th birthday, so i feel that because it's my birthday, i should be allowed to be full of sass.  this is me being sassy in washington, d.c.

anyways, in honor of my birthday, i'm going to do one of those super trendy 30 before 30 lists.  yes, i realize people usually give themselves more than a year to do it, but i'm an overachiever, plus some items really aren't that difficult.  and on the bright side, i'll have more blog ideas with photo evidence when i complete something on my list.  without further ado, see how busy i'll be in my 29th year.

Friday Love

image from
joshua radin.  i downloaded his new album, "underwater" this week and it is fantastic.  i also bought tickets for when he is in boston in the fall.  i've been a fan for a long time and i'm so excited to finally see him in concert.
image from
sierra nevada in a can.  AJD and i imbibed in these last weekend.  they went down quite easily.  something about a can over a bottle just works for sierra nevada.
acadia national park.  AJD and i are heading back there a week from today (we were last there three years ago).  i cannot wait.  hiking along the atlantic ocean, love.
image from via
colorblock blouses.  big trend for fall folks.  really excited about it.  i highly enjoy this one from ann taylor (sorry it's blurry and not as big as the other pictures.  it gets blurrier as it gets enlarged).  blouses themselves are classic pieces, but add in colorblocking and you get a little extra on trend for the fall.

Thursday Updates

welp, after feeling bad about the current state of my life, i decided to stay up until midnight last night watching the olympics and chelsea lately.  but in my defense, will ferrell was the guest on chelsea and how can i not watch that.  then misty may and kerri walsh (i'm too lazy to write their second last names) won their third gold, so i obviously had to stay up to watch their entire interview with bob costas.

but good news on the homefront today.  i got a pedicure huzzah!  yes, that is a form of aqua on my toes.  deal with it.
also i attempted to fix a hem that fell out on some work pants.  i failed, but at least i tried.  but i did successfully fix a skirt's zipper.  success!

and on top of that, after chopping off my hair in march 2011, it's finally long enough that i don't hate it anymore.
see before and after.  please disregard the blurriness of the before photo and my giant man hand and weirdo face in the updated picture.  it still needs to grow more but i finally don't hate it.
